Franz Beckenbauer does not agree to the opinion that there has been improvement in the standard of Football in the Italian top tier in the recent times.
In fact, he reckons it’s weakened.
According to Beckenbauer, just because Juventus has been able to do well in Europe, people have started believing that the club Football in Italy has revived, but, it’s not the truth.
Addressing the media in an event, Beckenbauer said, “Juventus is world class and they have shown over the last couple of seasons that they would beat any team on their day, but, on the basis of the successes that they have achieved, we can’t judge the Italian Football in general.”
“For me, Italy is still not in the top bracket. If I have to pick, I would go with Spain at the top, Germany no. 2, England no. 3 and then, you can talk about the leagues in France, Italy etc.”
“It’s nice to see that an Italian team is in the European final, but, you will have to keep in mind that Juventus is a class above the rest of the teams going around in Serie A at the moment.”
When asked if he gives Juventus any chance to even match Barcelona in the big final that is just about a couple of days away now, the 69-year old said, “I must say Juve’s defence impresses me. I had seen them playing Dortmund in the pre quarter finals and they were very compact in the deep. If they show the same kind of skills again, they can create a few challenges for the dangerous trio of Barca.”
The final match of the Champions League 2014-15 is going to be played at the Olympiastadion in Berlin this Saturday.
