BAYERN LEGEND NOT SURE ABOUT MANAGER

Bayern Munich have been enduring a disappointing season by their standards as the club have not displayed their best performances often this season. the Bavarian club was knocked out in the round of 16 of the Champions League for the first time in a while in a limp defeat to Liverpool.

The German giants looked devoid of ideas as the EPL club tore them apart in the return leg at the Allianz Arena. There have been concerns by many in the media about the need for the club to revamp the squad in the summer in what is likely to be the biggest transfer window in the club’s history.

Lucas Hernandez has already been confirmed for next season as the club paid a record €80 million to sign the player from Atletico Madrid while fellow countryman Benjamin Pavard is expected to join in the summer from Stuttgart.

Despite the intended strengthening of the club in the summer Bayern’s legend Franz Beckenbauer does not believe that current coach Niko Kovac is the right man to lead the club forward. Kovac has come under intense pressure since he was surprisingly handed the reins in the summer.

The Croat was employed on the back of his impressive stint at Eintracht Frankfurt but has struggled to exact his influence at the club. accused by some quarters of being a pragmatic coach Kovac was expected to be sacked in the middle of the season. but to the surprise of many Bayern called a press conference in which the club publicly backed their manager and accused the media of bias coverage of the team.

Beckenbauer speaking to the media intimated that the club may need the right manager to take the team forward. The German legend hinted that Kovac may be finding it difficult to make the transition from a mid-table club to the best club in Germany.

Despite his comments, Kovac is still favoured to lead the team next season as the Bayern board believes that he deserves another season.

The summer is likely to be one of the departures at the club with the likes of Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery among the host of players expected to leave the club. Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels are mulling offers from other clubs and James Rodriquez loan deal is unlikely to be renewed.

Bayern may still end up winning the double as they remain joint top in the league with Borussia Dortmund and are through to the DFB Pokal last stages.
