Beckenbauer Keeps Head In The Game
Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer has stated that the club should not be celebrating their league success excessively ahead of the cup final with Borussia Dortmund. Bayern Munich started the season with the opportunity to win six major trophies. However, apart from the wins in the FIFA Club World Cup and the Super Cup, the club has endured a disappointing end to the season. This is despite them reaching the league title in record time with seven games to spare. Since the win in the league, they have suffered exits from the Champions League in the semi-final stage.
There has been a lot of criticism of Bayern since their league victory because their performances have dropped quite substantially and it allowed Real Madrid to beat them 5-0 on aggregate. Beckenbauer has been heavily critical of Guardiola’s tactics in recent months. He has once again stated that the players should not get carried away with the league success since they have very important final against Dortmund. Bayern have already been beaten by Dortmund heavily in the last few weeks.
They will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the same, while ending the season on a positive note is extremely important. The media released several pictures showing Bayern players and manager celebrating their league success.
“I think it’s a normal reaction for a team to sit back after reaching an aim. Of course the timing isn’t great because everything is decided only in May. There are decisive games in the Champions League and the DFB-Pokal. And now they (Bayern) have a little break, after a little blip. That means they don’t play with the engagement and that concentration they played with a few months ago. And that’s a pity because it is an important time at the moment,” Beckenbauer said ahead of the final.
