LEWANDOWSKI ISN’T NEEDED

The German legend Franz Beckenbauer has said that Bayern Munich certainly do not need the services of the Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski. The German giants have been linked with the Polish striker for the last few months now.

The 24-year-old is out of contract next summer, which would enable Bayern to sign him on a free transfer. However, he has been subjected to interest from several big clubs across Europe like Real Madrid and Chelsea. As a result, it is thought that Bayern would be interested in the possibility of bringing him in the summer itself on a cut-price deal.

Even though the club has the likes of Mario Gomez and Mandžukić in the line-up, it is thought that there would be interested in the possibility of bringing Lewandowski to the club. Lewandowski has been one of the best strikers in Germany for the last few years, and according to Unibet, the latest sportsbook on him makes Bayern the favourites to sign him in the summer.

A lot of the success enjoyed a Borussia Dortmund in the last couple of seasons were primarily due to the brilliance of Lewandowski. He is a striker not only capable of scoring goals, but he is also capable of bringing others into play as well. However, Beckenbauer reckons that he is not essential for Bayern at the moment especially at a pricetag of around £ 30 million.

“Actually, it’s not really necessary. A big transfer doesn’t make any sense to me. When I look at the current squad, I notice that for every position Bayern have two, if not three options. Of course, I would take Lewandowski. However, assuring him that he’s guaranteed to play could be difficult,” said the former German international. The 26-year-old Mandžukić has been excellent for Munich this season. He has scored 15 goals in just 21 appearances for the team. Bayern Munich have a 17 point advantage over Borussia Dortmund in the table.
