ROBBEN SHOULD STAY

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer has said that he is extremely confident that star midfielder Arjen Robben will sign a contract extension in the near future. The contract of the Dutchman will come to an end at the end of next season. There have been great rumours that the 28-year-old has already agreed a deal with Italian Serie A champions Juventus, although the player has been quick to deny the speculation. The former Chelsea winger has been a huge success at the Allianz Arena so much so that he has been able to make a shadow on Franck Ribery.

Arjen Robben once again scored in the match against Real Madrid to help Bayern Munich get back 3-3 on aggregate. Bayern Munich then qualified for the Champions League final after beating Real Madrid in the penalty shootout. Robben was once again an important factor in getting Bayern Munich to the final of the Champions League just as he did back in 2010. Bayern Munich lost the final at the hands of José Mourinho’s Inter Milan, but the former Chelsea winger, with connections with the Portuguese, managed to get one over his former coach. Only a few weeks ago, Beckenbauer criticised Robben for missing the penalty against Dortmund.

“Robben knows what to expect here at Bayern. That’s why I expect him to sign a new deal eventually. It would be in the best interest of both parties. I know that Robben is angry with me because I criticised him, but that doesn’t change my positive opinion of him. I am a big Robben fan. He’s indispensable for us on the right as long as we’re playing in a formation with wingers, just like Ribery on the left. Robben has scored a lot of decisive goals in the past few seasons,” Beckenbauer said to Bild.

BECKENBAUER: ROBBEN IS SELFISH

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Bayern Munich and Germany legend Franz Beckenbauer has said that Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben is a very selfish player. Arjen Robben is regarded as one of the best players at Bayern Munich. He is a regular scorer of many goals, despite the fact that the largely plays out on the wing.

One cannot doubt the amount of quality Arjen Robben possesses, but the 66-year-old German legend has said that Arjen Robben needs to respect his teammates more than he does now. Franz Beckenbauer has identified that Arjen Robben does not celebrate goals with his teammates even if they have played the major role in the goal.

Instead, Arjen Robben runs down to celebrate with his family in the stands, which according to Franz Beckenbauer is the bad thing to do because it does not provide the goal creator with the necessary recognition. So far, Arjen Robben has scored five goals for Bayern Munich this season alone in the 12 appearances he has made for the club. Despite being one of the most talented players in the world, Arjen Robben does not get a regular game time with the club because of the fact that he is injured for most of the time.

“Robben is a selfish player just like many others. His reaction alone after a good action or a goal; he does not thank the person who gave the assist, but runs toward the stands to look for his family. That way the team has to run after him again,” Beckenbauer said to Sky 90. Bayern Munich are currently in the second place in the Bundesliga, despite having made a fantastic start to the season. Borussia Dortmund currently lead the table from Bayern Munich by two points. Both teams have played the same number of matches.
