FRANZ PREDICTS FINALISTS

Wednesday, June 27th, 2012

World Cup winner and German legend Franz Beckenbauer has said that it would be once again a repeat of Euro 2008 in the final of the Euro 2012. He has predicted that Germany will play Spain in the final of Euro 2012, with Spain once again emerging victorious in the competition.

The Euro 2008 victory for Spain marked the first major title for Spain in 44 years. They have gone on to achieve unprecedented success since then, as they have also lifted the 2010 FIFA World Cup as well. They are once again the favourites for the Euro 2012, thus making it three major trophies in a row.

Germany are close favourites as well, as they have been quite impressive in the last three major tournaments without any luck. It is due to this reason that Franz Beckenbauer believes that Germany should tried their luck along the way because without that it would be very difficult to win a major tournament. Germany have finished third, second and third in the last three major tournaments, with many recognising that it is probably Germany’s year to achieve success.

The current crop of youngsters have matured into great players according to Franz Beckenbauer, though they will have to beat a Spain team led by Fernando Torres.

‘It is fantastic when you finish second or third, but then there is always something left over. You can also win things and that is something that you can force – it comes down to mentality. It is football and anything can happen. The ball can hit the inside of the post and bounce out rather than in the goal, but if everything goes according to plan then I can see a Spain-Germany final,’ said Franz Beckenbauer ahead of the Euro 2012.

Germany face a tough group, as they are in the group containing Portugal, Netherlands and Denmark, and are confident – Lukas Podolski reckons they can go all the way according to the Arsenal news website.
