NEWCASTLE EYEING MOVE FOR FREIBURG STAR

Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing Freiburg defensive stalwart Nico Schlotterbeck who has drawn similarities with German football icon FranzBeckenbauer. Sky Sports reporter Dhamesh Shethconfirmed the interest ofthe Magpies in the player likened to Franz Beckenbauer. It was revealed that Newcastle United see Schlotterbeck as an alternative to Dutch defender Sven Botman who plays his club football in the French league with Lille.

The new Franz Beckenbauer is also on the radar of German champions Bayern Munich and the Bavarian giants could compete with Newcastle United for the signature of the highly rated defensive player. German publication Bavarian Football Works confirmed the interest of immediate past European champions Bayern Munich in the Freiburg player.

Schlotterbeck has been one of the best young players in the German Bundesliga this season. Journalist Jacques Talbot has been one of the many football stakeholders who have comparedthe Freiburg defender to Franz Beckenbauer with his stats. His attacking percentile was compared toGerman football legend Beckenbauer. Talbot talked up Schlotterbeck as a potentially very good signing for the Magpies and that they are in for a treat if they could pull off a deal for the Freiburg defender.

Newcastle United are in the winter transfer window for a central defender and Schlotterbeck is one their options. Apart from Schlotterbeck and Botman, the Magpies have also been linked with a move for AS Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile and Sevilla defensive talent Diego Carlos.

The Magpies have already move to strengthen their team as they bid to avoid demotion in the Premier League at the end of this season. They have spent the majority of this season in the bottom three and have bolstered their team with English fullback Kieran Tripper and New Zealand striker Chris Wood. Trippier was signed from Spanish champions Atletico Madrid, while Wood joined from fellow Premier League side Burnley.
