Beckenbauer Not Keen on Reus

Tuesday, December 13th, 2011

Franz Beckenbauer has surprised almost everyone at Bayern Munich by saying that Marco Reus’ transfer to Bayern Munich may not be that good for the club and the player. Marco Reus has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich all season long.

He has so far had a great season for Borussia Mönchengladbach scoring 10 goals for them already, as they continued to dominate the German Bundesliga alongside their traditional rivals. He even scored a wonderful hat-trick against Werder Bremen recently. However, Franz Beckenbauer believes that Bayern Munich already have enough attackers in their books and they should be concentrating in strengthening the team elsewhere.

Bayern Munich have been gifted with the likes of Mario Gomez, Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and Thomas Muller when it comes to the attacking options. However, it seems that they have been showing a lot of interest in Marco Reus mainly because of the fact that both Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery have been struggling with a lot of injury problems over the last few years. The legendary German has said that Bayern Munich already have enough attackers and the arrival of Marco Reus would create new problems at the Allianz-Arena. “Reus too at Bayern? That could cause problems. [Arjen] Robben is playing, and [Franck] Ribery. [Thomas] Muller until just recently. Reus could be one star too many,” Franz Beckenbauer was quoted as saying in response to a question regarding Marco Reus.

Marco Reus’ agent was quick to deny any link between Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach. According to him, Marco Reus is mainly looking to perform well at the Euro 2012 Championships more than anything else. It seems that Germany always have a great young talent coming up when it comes to the big tournaments, and it is the turn of Marco Reus this time around.
